Death of the Dutch Prince Friso

No decision on funeral yet

Members of the royal family are traditionally buried in the Nieuwe Kerk in Delft. However, the church and the royal tomb are currently being renovated. The family and also the Dutch government now have to decide on the funeral services. At his wedding to Princess Mabel, Friso had given up a place in the line of succession. It is therefore unclear whether he will still be buried with all state honors.

Friso was only relocated from London to Huis ten Bosch in The Hague at the beginning of July. In London he had been treated in a special clinic since the skiing accident. His condition did not improve.

Until the end Friso was cared for in his mother’s residential palace.

Beatrix had handed the throne over to her son Willem-Alexander on April 30th.

Her husband, Friso’s father, Prince Claus from Germany, died in October 2002 at the age of 76.

Three princesses, a royal couple and a dog: the young black Labrador skipper was allowed to take part in the official summer photo of King Willem-Alexander and his family on Friday. “Happy Holidays” was almost the only thing the king said at the photo session, as the Dutch news agency ANP reported.
